OPP investigate cruiser crash

An OPP cruiser crashed off County Road 21 just east of Minden last week, leaving a wake of ripped up grass before coming to its final resting place slanted against a phone pole.

The single-vehicle collision occurred just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The officer driving was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken to local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

In a Nov. 11 release, local OPP said the technical traffic collision investigations unit had been called in to investigate and that further information would be released when it became unavailable.

“The investigation is on-going at this time and there are no new updates,” community relations officer Dianna Dauphinee wrote in an email to the paper Nov. 16. “I don’t know when we will be able to issue the next media release but I assure you as accurate and confirmed information becomes available it will be released.”

Marilyn Bagshaw was seated on her couch having lunch around 2 p.m. on Remembrance Day when she heard what sounded like an explosion.

Looking up through her front window, she saw mud and grass flying through the air. She ran outside to find the cruiser against the phone pole on her lawn. There was a young woman already running toward the cruiser. The officer was able to exit the vehicle himself, she said, telling the women that he was OK.
