Kinmount Fair director and perennial community volunteer and promoter Guy Scott was named Kinmount’s Citizen of the Year during the opening day of this year’s fair on Sept. 1.
The award is given out by the Kinmount Lions Club each year to a resident who contributes to the community through their volunteer activities.
A teacher, historian and author, Scott has written books about the area, helps produce community newsletter the Kinmount Gazette, is a friend of Santa Claus, a member of the Friends of Galway and other community and historical organizations. He is involved in many Kinmount events and projects and promotes the community wherever he goes.
"I actually wear Kinmount on my hat,” Scott said as he accepted the honour. “I’m very proud of my community.”
Scott stressed the importance of volunteerism.
“Volunteerism is what makes small communities,” he said, adding, “Noah’s Ark was built by volunteers . . . the Titanic was built by professionals.”
